Xerox Phaser 4510 in Linux

I had struggled in the past already with a Xerox Phaser 4500; now a new printer, a Xerox Phaser 4510 was brought at work and so I was already worried about its installation with cups, in kubuntu, since no driver is provided by default by cups.

However, this time was quite easy, since the Xerox site provides some new drivers that can be downloaded freely here.

You just need to untar the package and use the right .ppd file, and in my case it is xrx4510dt.ppd.

I installed this printer with the CUPS web interface (with the configuration procedure of KDE it failed to correctly set this printer, don't know why), and when you come to select the model you provide the above ppd file.

Everything then worked like a charm!

I have the same unit at the office. Recently I also acquired a free Phaser 8560 from Xerox thru freeprinterpromo.com - Have been using this printer for more than a year now and had no maintenance issue with it to date. It prints fast with good quality. This unit is best for network groups which requires bulk printing.

I also had a printer with the verrry same problem. Except mine was malfunctioning dearly on the print itself. No matter what I did, whether it was changing the ink cartridge or cleaning it on the inside, it still kept insisting on Not working! Frustrated much, I took it down to my local near by electronic store where I then had the machine 'put to sleep' and got myself a Brand New HP Vivera Printer! Oh my what a beauty and boy does she print! :)

I think it may be time to update to a newer Xerox Phaser printer. out of the top 10 best printers of 2009, the Xerox Phaser series printers were numbers 1, 3, and 4 on the list.
The number one printer out right now is the Phaser 8560. Easy to use, maintenance free, and my favorite feature, the wax stick ink. I got one from a friend of mine after he got a new one, and i can say it prints a full color page in about 7 seconds. dont be distressed or discouraged at Xerox yet. They are only going to make bigger and better improvements in the future too!
